UU Update – September 25th, 2025
Hello ,
We appreciate your patience as we roll out a new system to handle our weekly newsletters. We want to take this opportunity to thank Cathy Corr for her hard work and dedication over the last few years delivering the weekly update.
Along with the system that we are moving to deliver the updates, it will take a little time to get the updates looking and feeling the way Cathy had them. I (Stewart speaking) will humbly admit that I don’t think I will get it 100% to the way Cathy had the newsletter feeling, but I will do my best to get it as close as possible. If I miss anything within this newsletter, I apologize. In the future, if you’d like to contribute something to the newsletter that you would like to go out, please submit your updates to update@uufnb.org, and we will get them out in a timely manner.

Kayak Season is Here

The UU Kayak Group is back paddling. We paddle once a week starting at 8:00 am. This may vary. If the weather gets too hot, we will start a little earlier and in the late fall, as it gets colder, later. The day of the week will vary according to the needs of the group. All levels of experience are welcome. If you are interested in joining the UU Kayak group, please contact Trish Hardy: trishhardy2@gmail.com
The unique artistic creations by our own Beth Conley to be shown in New Bern!
Seasonal Impressions: Paintings and Miniatures by Elizabeth Conley, opens Sept.12, at Bank of the Arts. This is a retrospective collection with a variety of mediums and subjects. The show runs until the end of the month.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!
“Swiss Bear has asked our Fellowship if we’d run Kidz Zone at MumFest on Saturday, Oct 11. If anyone is interested in helping on that date under the Kidz Zone Tent, please let Paula Saihati know at psaihati@aol.com or text to (703) 618-2850. It would be from 10 AM until 6 PM. We’d need enough people to run in 2 – 3 hour shifts. Hopefully we’d be doing two or three different crafts during the day, depending on the number of volunteers we get.”
New Bern Rotary’s Breakfast Club’s OKTOBERFEST 2025 is on Sept. 27. The money earned from Oktoberfest is to buy shoes for our local signature “Kicks for Kids” program. Over 7000 children have benefited from this program since its inception in 1999, touching the lives of some of the most disadvantaged children in Craven County. See the Flyer for information.

Crop Walk 2025

This year Crop Hunger Walk is on September 28, 2025. We will be meeting at Union Point Park at 2:00 by a picnic table (hopefully near the swings). The walk starts at 3:00, but I do need you all there no later than 2:15 to check in. The Crop Hunger Walk has two routes. One is a 1-mile and a 3.5-mile walk. There will be food and music after the walk. Now more than ever, we need to support this year’s CROP HUNGER WALK. When you turn on the news every day, there is a report about starving children in Gaza and Africa. I am sure there are areas here in the US that desperately need help. Please see Terry Shoup if you would like to find out more information. Here is the link if you want to sign up and walk or just donate.
Needed: a second RE Room adult advisor
Lynn Wilson will be covering for the RE children. She would welcome another adult to agree to be there for the children when needed. Please see Lynn if you are able to help. Ethan & Zev Martin have agreed to be available to offer childcare weekly during services, but we do need one adult volunteer to be with them each week. If we could have 8 people sign up to help, that would keep you in a rotation of just once every 8 weeks! Please see the sign-up sheet on the foyer table to sign up or contactLynn Wilson by text at 978-618-4517 or email: (lynnwil85@gmail.com) with questions.
