Today South Africa struggles with the mixed results of resistance, and what some call a failed state. The legacy of colonial powers England and the Netherlands in the 19th Century; the rise of exclusionary laws and apartheid in the 20th Century; and HIV/AIDS denialism and corruption in the early 21st Century—all these took freedom and opportunity from local blacks and colored people of South Africa. Today South Africa struggles with the mixed results of resistance which makes it difficult for locals to effectively take control of their own destiny. .
